One art direction, or none
Put a stylised building next to a photorealistic wall and the scene reads as broken even to someone who could not say why. The same happens with mismatched texel density, inconsistent wear, and lighting assumptions that disagree. Individual quality does not rescue any of it.
This is the strongest argument for buying a kit rather than assembling one from single models: the consistency is the product. A kit that was authored together is coherent by construction, and coherence is the expensive part to add afterwards.
What modular actually requires
Modular is a claim worth testing. Pieces need to align to a predictable grid so walls meet without gaps. Pivots need to sit where you would grab the piece, or every placement becomes a numeric adjustment. Trims, edges, and materials need to match across pieces so joins do not announce themselves. Surfaces need to tile without a visible repeat at the distances you actually view them from.
Without those, a set of buildings is a set of buildings. With them, it is something you can lay out in an afternoon.
Set dressing is the half that gets skipped
Architecture and terrain establish a space. Dressing is what makes it look occupied: the clutter, the fixtures, the small pieces that suggest something happens here. A kit that stops at structures leaves you with a film set nobody has walked into yet, and the pieces you then buy to fill it are the ones most likely to clash.
The environment category on Polymade Store
The environment category covers architecture, terrain, and set dressing that share one art direction, so whole scenes hold together without a matching pass. Each pack's own page will state its scope, its geometry and surface specification, its formats, and the engines and tools it was prepared for, written from the finished pack.
Nothing is listed yet. The marketplace page shows the current state of every category honestly, including the ones with nothing in them, and the launch list is where the first releases are announced.
Frequently asked questions
Which engines and tools will environment packs support?
Each pack page names the engines and tools that pack was prepared for and lists its formats before you can buy. We do not publish format lists for packs that have not been built.
Can I mix two environment packs in one scene?
You can, and the license allows it, but check both pack pages first. Art direction is consistent within a pack by design; across two packs it is only consistent if both pages describe the same one.
Does the category cover interiors as well as exteriors?
The category covers architecture, terrain, and set dressing, and each pack page states its own scope precisely. We are not going to describe the coverage of packs that do not exist yet.
When will the first environment pack list?
There is no date on the calendar, and nothing lists before it exists. The launch list gets one email when the store opens.
